Traditional Service Followed by Cremation

A visitation and funeral ceremony can take place before cremation, preserving familiar traditions while choosing cremation for final disposition.

How the sequence works

The family may hold a visitation or viewing, conduct a religious or secular funeral ceremony, and then proceed to cremation rather than cemetery burial. The service can include many of the same personal, cultural, and ceremonial elements as a traditional burial funeral.

Ceremonial and merchandise decisions

The arrangement conference covers preparation, clothing, viewing preferences, service location, clergy or celebrant, music, readings, speakers, procession needs, and an appropriate casket or ceremonial container. Only verified merchandise and prices are presented.

After cremation

The cremated remains are placed in a temporary container or selected urn. The family can then choose keeping, burial, inurnment, scattering where permitted, or another memorialization plan. The choice does not have to be reduced to one moment if the family needs time to decide.

Coordinating traditions

Tell the funeral director which religious or cultural practices are important and who should be involved. Timing or preparation requirements may affect the service plan and should be raised early.
